When should I use a Filterfan vs. a cooling unit (enclosure A/C)?
Use a Filterfan when the ambient temperature outside the enclosure is always lower than the target temperature inside. If ambient air is too hot, too humid, or contains contaminants like oil mist or corrosive gases, you need a closed-loop cooling unit that keeps enclosure air separated from the environment.
How do I calculate the correct cooling capacity for my enclosure?
You need three inputs: (1) total heat dissipation in watts from all components inside the enclosure, (2) the maximum ambient temperature outside the enclosure, and (3) the target temperature inside the enclosure. Pfannenberg offers free online sizing software, or you can contact Applied Control and we'll run the calculation for you.
Are Pfannenberg products available with NEMA 4X ratings for washdown environments?
Yes. The DTS 3000 Series cooling units and PWS Air-to-Water Heat Exchangers are available in NEMA 4/4X configurations with stainless steel options, designed specifically for food processing, pharmaceutical, and chemical plant washdown areas.
Do Pfannenberg chillers ship from stock?
Yes — the CCE Series compact chillers are stocked for quick delivery, typically offering 1–3 ton capacity for small industrial cooling applications. Larger EB 2.0 Series chillers may require factory lead times depending on configuration. Contact us for current availability.
Can Pfannenberg replace my existing enclosure cooling unit from another brand?
In most cases, yes. Pfannenberg cooling units and Filterfans use standard enclosure cutout sizes and mounting patterns.
