Water and Wastewater Pump Motors, Drives and Panels
Deep well turbine pumps and vertical lift pumps take a vertical hollow shaft (VHS) motor with a non-reverse ratchet. Run it on a pump drive with built-in PID and pump cascade, and house the controls in a Type 4X panel with sealed cooling. Jobs paid with federal infrastructure money may also need Build America, Buy America (BABAA) listed parts. The tables below give the ratings and part numbers for each piece.

Step 1: Pick the pump motor

Standard on the TECO low voltage VHS motors: coupling with gib key, ball type non-reverse ratchet (NRR), drip and splash cover, 120 V space heaters, stainless nameplate, counterclockwise rotation viewed from the top, inverter duty per NEMA MG 1 Part 31 at 1.0 service factor. The WPI line adds rodent screens. 444TP to 449TP frames can be built for 175% high thrust. Step 2: Pick the pump drive
The TECO Westinghouse F510 is TECO's fan and pump drive. TECO lists wastewater, irrigation and industrial pumping as target uses.

On a VHS motor with a non-reverse ratchet, TECO rates the speed range at 10:1 variable torque. Without the ratchet and with braking in the drive, it is 20:1. Long cable runs out to a well or lift station need a check on carrier frequency and motor peak voltage. See long motor leads on a VFD and line reactor vs load reactor. A Rex 3PR-0060C3H is the 60 A, 3%, 480 V reactor for a 40 HP drive.

Common questions
What does the non-reverse ratchet do?
It stops the shaft from spinning backward when the pump stops and the water column drains back down the column pipe. TECO ships a ball type NRR as standard on its low voltage VHS motors.
Can a vertical hollow shaft motor run on a VFD?
Yes. TECO rates its VHS motors inverter duty per NEMA MG 1 Part 31 at a 1.0 service factor. With the ratchet in place the range is 10:1 variable torque.
WPI or TEFC?
TECO builds both. The WPI line starts at 7.5 HP. The TEFC line starts at 15 HP, is IP55 and carries CSA Class I, Div. 2 for Groups B, C and D. Pick TEFC when the motor sits in a classified or dirty area.
How many pumps can one F510 run?
Up to 4 with the built-in cascade: one master and up to 3 followers. Add the JN5-IO-8D0 card for up to 8.
Which cooling units meet BABAA?
Pfannenberg lists select DTS 3081, 3181, 3185, 3281 and 3285 cooling units plus select PKS and PWS heat exchangers. The table above shows the ones on this site.
