Hoffman DAH Heater Cross Reference to Hammond and Pfannenberg

Hoffman DAH heaters cross to Hammond FLHTF fan heaters at the same voltage and the next watt rating up or equal. Both have a built-in thermostat set from 0 to 100°F and a fan that pushes the heat up through the cabinet. Pfannenberg FLH-TF and FLH-T fan heaters with thermostat are the second option. The table lists every DAH catalog number.

How much heat do you need?

Hammond gives this formula: heater watts = (ΔT x k x A) minus the watts the parts in the box already give off. ΔT is how far above outside air you need the inside (1 K = 1°C = 1.8°F). A is the exposed surface area in ft². Double the ΔT x k x A term for an outdoor box.

Enclosure material k (W/ft²K)
Painted steel 0.51
Stainless steel 0.344
Aluminum 1.115
Plastic 0.325
Step Numbers Result
Heat loss ΔT 15 K x 0.51 (painted steel) x 30 ft² 229.5 W

Common questions

Is the Hammond FLHTF a straight swap for a DAH?

On ratings, yes from 200 W up: same voltage, same watts, same 0 to 100°F thermostat range. Check the hole pattern and clearance, since the bodies are not the same size. The 100 W DAH crosses to the 125 W FLHTF.

Why does the Hammond 230 V heater list two watt ratings?

Heater output changes with voltage. Hammond lists the 230 V models at 220 V and 240 V, so the FLHTF400A230 gives 335 W at 220 V and 400 W at 240 V. If your line runs at 208 V, size up.

What replaces the 1,300 W DAH?

Hammond FLHTF1300A115 or FLHTF1300A230 at the same 1,300 W. The largest Pfannenberg FLH-T is 1,000 W. Use two smaller units if you need the full 1,300 W from Pfannenberg.

Do I need a fan heater or a radiant heater?

A fan heater with a thermostat is one part and spreads heat fast through a big box. A radiant heater like the FLH 100 17010005007 snaps onto DIN rail, has no fan, and needs a separate thermostat or hygrostat. It fits small boxes where you only need to stop condensation.

Where should the heater go?

Low in the cabinet, on a metal panel, with the air outlet up. Hoffman says to keep heat sensitive parts out of the discharge area and never mount on wood. The same rule makes sense for any fan heater.
